Understanding Custom Printed Blanket Fabrics

Custom pet blankets typically feature plush microfiber fleece or double-layered Sherpa materials. The artwork is infused directly into the synthetic fibers using high-heat dye sublimation, creating a smooth finish that won't peel, crack, or flake off like traditional screen printing.

However, high heat during subsequent washings can damage these synthetic microfibers, causing them to melt, warp, or lose their plush texture over time. Understanding how to handle synthetic fibers is the key to maintaining their original softness.

Essential Washing Instructions for Daily Care

To preserve the vivid artwork and keep the fabric plush, always wash your custom blanket on a gentle or delicate cycle using cold water. Hot water can break down synthetic fibers and gradually dull the printed colors.

Detergents and Additives to Avoid

Standard fabric softeners and liquid bleach should never be used on custom synthetic blankets. Softeners deposit a silicone coating over the microfibers, which strips the blanket of its natural fluffiness and traps pet odours over time.

Bleach and aggressive stain removers will break down the dye chemistry, leading to permanent fading and discoloration. If you need to eliminate odors, add half a cup of distilled white vinegar to the rinse cycle instead of commercial fabric softener.

Drying Methods to Preserve Softness and Color

Air drying is the absolute best method for preserving custom printed textiles. Lay the blanket flat or hang it on a drying rack away from direct, harsh sunlight to allow the fibers to dry naturally.

If you must use a tumble dryer, select the lowest air-only or no-heat setting. Exposure to medium or high dryer heat will cause fleece microfibers to singe and mat together, permanently ruining the soft hand-feel of the blanket.

Spot Cleaning Pet Stains and Accidents

Act quickly when mud, drool, or pet accidents occur. Gently blot the area with a clean cloth or paper towel to absorb excess moisture—never rub vigorously, as rubbing pushes stains deeper into the synthetic weave.

Apply a small amount of mild liquid dish soap diluted in cold water directly to the spot. Work it in gently with your fingertips, rinse thoroughly with cold water, and proceed with a standard gentle machine wash if necessary.
